George Herbert Van Volkenburgh

George Van Volkenburgh, 76, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015. Service: 10 a.m. Saturday at Lucas Funeral Home,137 E. Hill St. Keller, 817-753-6800. Visitation: 9:30 a.m. prior to service. Cremation will follow. Born January 9, 1939 in Los Angeles, California to Frank and Ruth Van Volkenburgh, he was the oldest of two children. He demonstrated his love of music as he became proficient at playing the cello. It was in high school orchestra that he met the love of his life, Carol Gene Katich. On June 17 of 1961, they were married. Soon afterward, the two enlarged their family with the birth of three sons: Randy, Ron, and Rick. With a raised eyebrow and an all-knowing twinkle in his eye, he would look at you with an expression that said he had something humorous upon his mind. His gentle and quiet spirit demonstrated a man truly at peace with his neighbor and himself. Always eager to lend a hand, George was there anytime and anywhere you needed him. George Herbert Van Volkenburgh left this earth and entered into his heavenly abode on January 27, 2015. George Herbert Van Volkenburgh, son, father, grandfather, and soon to be great-grandfather, proceeded in death by his beloved son, Rick Van Volkenburgh. He is survived by his wife, Carol Van Volkenburgh, of fifty-four years, his sons and their wives: Randy and Candi Van Volkenburgh, and Ron and Susan Van Volkenburgh, his grandchildren, Ashley, Jacob, Jonathan, James, David, and Andrew. He was thrilled when he learned that he was to be a great-grandfather. George Van Volkenburgh had a gentle and noble spirit that we will greatly miss. It is this same spirit that has led him to enter into his present estate that, without doubt, he has earned by his genuine and compassionate character.
