Barbara Harris

Barbara Kay Harris (August 24, 1946 - April 17th, 2015) Barbara Kay Harris, 68, was called home by her Savior, following another onset of cancer, on April 17th, 2015. Barbara was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved her Lord and Savior, and enjoyed sharing her faith with others. Her world revolved around her only daughter, Tammy, and her 6 beautiful grandchildren. Barbara Kay Harris was born on August 24th, 1946 to John and Vera (Boudreau) Naeher. She was the 2nd of 4 children, and the only girl amongst 3 rambunctious brothers. Although most of her childhood was spent in Oklahoma City, she also spent time in W. Covina, CA, Lebanon, MO, and Tulsa, OK. She graduated from Putnam City High School in Oklahoma City in 1964, and she went on to complete some college before entering cosmetology school and becoming a hairdresser. She married Brian Harris in 1967 and they had one child, Tamara Ann. They moved to Garland, TX in 1975, and later divorced. Barbara was a loving, devoted mother and hard worker. As a single mom, she not only held down a full time job, she often worked doing hair in the evenings or making crafts to sell for extra income. She was always by her daughter’s side, serving as a co-sponsor for drill team, helping with cheerleading, and just assisting in any way possible in all of Tammy’s endeavors. After years together, she married Jim Aston. Jim had 3 children, Brad, Brent, and Brandi. Over the years, Barbara came to love them all as her own, and she remained a part of their lives even after they divorced. Barbara worked at various places prior to her retirement, but a large part of her career was spent with GTE Supply/Verizon. She went to work for them in June of 1985 at their Garland office, and was later transferred to the headquarters in Las Colinas. She took an early retirement offer from Verizon in 2003, and went on to work for Southwestern Bell/AT&T and Compucom before retiring to spend more time with her family in February of 2012. Her grandchildren, all six of them, were the love of her life. She took pleasure in spoiling them as much as possible. During her previous bouts with cancer, it was her grandkids who kept her motivated. Barbara was happiest when she was with her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching the boys play sports. watching the girls dancing and doing gymnastics, and attending their school performances when possible. She also loved to take them to her house on weekends for some “Mimi time”. Barbara’s numerous friends describe her as sweet, generous, and loving. She was easy to talk to and was a good listener. She was the kind of friend you could count on. Her friends held a special place in her heart, and she knew she could count on them in times of need. Those who knew Barbara know that she LOVED to shop, especially for other people. She could shop for hours on end and often didn’t leave the stores until closing time. She also enjoyed crafting, reading, watching movies, and going out to eat. Barbara also loved animals, and especially adored her little dogs, Rascal and Penny. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents.
