Bennie Shaw

June 5, 1918 — November 17, 2005

Bennie Shaw

She was born to Tom and Eda Bearden in Joshua on June 5, 1918. Angels came to walk her home to be with the Lord on Nov. 17, 2005. ??? Raised on the north side of Fort Worth, she was in the first class to graduate from North Side High School's new building in 1936. ??? Bennie worked at Convair, now Lockheed, during World War II as a "Rosie the Riveter." She met and married Alex "Red" Shaw in 1946. Bennie and Red moved to the Oakhurst area of Fort Worth in 1956, where she raised her three children as well as a multitude of neighborhood kids, nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her heart and her home were always open to any child who needed her. ??? Bennie worked as a homemaker until 1965 when she went to work at the downtown department store, Stripling's. What started out as a part-time job for her ended in December of 2002. ??? She will be remembered by all who knew her as having a sweet smile, a giving spirit, a willingness to give away anything she had to anyone who needed it and as a person who was fiercely loyal to her family. She was the first one to ask "what can I do" and then always gave a little more. ??? She moved to Decatur last year and spent long hours on her front porch enjoying the beauty of the land around her home. She was a member of Eagle Drive Baptist Church in Decatur. ??? She was preceded in death by her brothers, Trent and Herbert Bearden; her husband, Alex "Red" Shaw; daughters, Rebecca and Brenda. ??? Survivors: Son, Milton "Red" Shaw and wife, Joanne, of Decatur; grandchildren, Melanie Shaw of Phoenix, Ariz., Glenn Shaw of Boise, Idaho, Christal Anderson of Lake Worth, Kelly Forsyth and husband, Terry, of Keller, Alex Shaw of Haltom City, CJ and Barbara Harris of Decatur; great-grandchildren, Cortney and Garrah Barnes, Isaiah and Joseph Shaw, Christopher and Megan Harris, Jordana and Kyle Forsyth; and lifelong friend, LaWanda Myers of Gulf Shores, Ala.
