Bettye Ashmore Byas

HURST -- Bettye Ashmore Byas, 88, joined in heaven her Savior; her husband, Bill; her parents; and her brothers, Gene and Bob, on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014. Funeral: 3 p.m. Saturday at Richland Hills Baptist Church, 6852 Baker Blvd., Richland Hills. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lucas Funeral Home, Hurst. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends consider a contribution to Texas Baptist Men. She was born Aug. 8, 1926, to William Earl Ashmore and Gertie Lee Hill Ashmore. Bettye married Bill Byas on Nov. 15, 1947, at North Fort Worth Baptist Church. They were both graduates of North Side High School. They had been married 62 years when Bill passed away on July 29, 2010. Bettye was a homemaker until 1978 when Bill called her to help out at the office of J. Paul Smith Company for a little while. That "little while" lasted until they retired in 1992. She was a member of Richland Hills Baptist Church. Her pastor, James Hooper, will officiate. Survivors: Son, Barry Byas; daughter, Becky Byas Grangaard; grandchildren, Rita Byas Barnes, Dawn Grangaard Ratzlaff, and Scott Grangaard; and great-grandchildchildren, Enoch Ratzlaff and Jude Barnes.
