Danny H. Smithey

Danny H Smithey went to be with the Lord, Friday, October 31, 2014, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was 62. Funeral: 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 5, at Lucas Funeral Home, Hurst. Interment: 11 am Thursday, November 6, in Blackwell Cemetery, Nolan County. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 4, at the funeral home. Danny was born April 19, 1952 in Dallas, Texas, to parents James and Johnnie Perkins Smithey. He was a 1971 graduate of Trinity High school in Euless. After graduation, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy on aircraft carriers USS Kitty Hawk and USS Ticonderoga. He worked on the freight docks and as a truck driver at Merchants Fast Motor Lines for 23 years. In 1996, he went to work for Bell Helicopter in the transportation department as a truck driver. He was a longtime member of the UAW. Danny met the love of his life, Cindy Raney, in high school and they later married on May 15, 1982. Danny enjoyed working with his hands, riding his motorcycle, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. He loved life and never met a stranger. He always greeted everyone with a kind word and a smile. He will be missed by everyone that knew him. Danny was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Ralph R Raney and niece, Hope Deming. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Cindy; sister, Linda Hughes and husband, Ron of Longview; brother, Mike Smithey and wife, Joyce of Longview; mother-in-law, Eva Raney of Euless; sister-in-law, Judy Brackeen of Euless; brothers-in-law, Ken Raney and wife, Jeanne of Arlington; Rodger Raney and wife, Betty of Hurst; Jeff Raney and wife, Rebecca of Enloe, Tx and numerous nieces and nephews.
