AZLE -- Dorothy Elizabeth Summers Kerlee, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, died peacefully Thursday morning, Dec. 2, 2010, close to her 92nd year. Service: Following a committal service at 12:30 p.m. Monday in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Dorothy will be laid to rest next to her husband, Enis. Visitation: Family and friends will gather to share laughter and tears in the Great Room at Robertson Mueller Harper from 11 a.m. until noon Monday. A native of Eddy, Dorothy was born Dec. 19, 1918, the daughter of Joe Absey and Florence Estelle Elliot Summers. She attended Texas Woman's University in Denton and worked at Montgomery Ward in Fort Worth during the summer. While living with the Moody family, she met her husband to be, Enis Mitchell Kerlee; they married on Oct. 17, 1941. The couple were charter members of Northwest Bible Church. Dorothy was the consummate homemaker, wife and mother. While raising their three daughters, she exhibited her talents of cooking, sewing and quilting. Known as the "Teddy Bear Lady," Dorothy enjoyed showing her handmade teddy bears and quilts at the Trinity Valley Quilters' Guild Show. She was also an accomplished artist and crafts-person. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Enis, who died earlier this year; sister, Amelia Summers Stewart; and brothers, Joe B. and C.A. Summers. Survivors: In addition to her daughters, Camille Kerlee Hess of Arlington, Pamela Kerlee O'Dell and her husband, Roy, of Fort Worth and Valerie Kerlee Heitzmann and her husband, Richard, of Northville, Mich., Dorothy is survived by her grandchildren, Robin Hess Eggen and Floyd, Karen Hess Dill and Keith, Belinda Hess Gibson and Monte, Stephen Hess and Joanna, Amy O'Dell Cromer and Chris, Matt O'Dell and Violet, Daniel Heitzmann and Janel, Joel Heitzmann and Timothy Heitzmann and Lisa; great-grandchildren, Elliot Eggen, Andrew, Adam and Aaron Dill, Caden Gibson, Carissa Cromer and Olivia, Bryce and Troy Heitzmann; and nieces and nephews and their families.
