Ernest ““Smokey”” Tallant

Ernest was born Nov. 27, 1919, in Stephenville to James and Nettie Trimble Tallant. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy. Smokey was a police officer for 31 years. ??? He was a master Mason since 1955 and a Shriner since 1961. A very humble, unassuming man, he served his community, working with the Shriners in support of crippled and underprivileged children. ??? He was a longtime member of Diamond Oaks Country Club and was an avid golfer, playing nearly every day for 25 years. One of his proud golfing accomplishments was having made a hole in one 16 times. ??? Smokey was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Carson Tallant.
