GENEVIEVE RATCLIFF

FORT WORTH -- Genevieve Turney Ratcliff, 80, died peacefully Thursday morning, July 9, 2009.        Funeral: 2 p.m. Monday at Edge Park United Methodist Church, 5616 Crowley Road. The Rev. Dr. Lynn D. Moore and the Rev. Verne Fuqua will officiate. Following committal services, Genevieve will be laid to rest next to her husband, Ben, in Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: She will lie in state Sunday afternoon at Robertson Mueller Harper where family and friends will be received in the Great Room from 2 to 4 p.m.        Memorials: Consideration of contributions to a charity of one's choice is suggested.        Born in Houston County on Jan. 7, 1929, Genevieve Turney was the daughter of Theodore and Florence McManners Turney. She married Ben Francis Ratcliff on Dec. 4, 1946.        In 1948, the couple founded Recorder Publishing, which publishes the Commercial Recorder, a publication in print since 1903. Fifteen years ago the company was incorporated under the name of Ratcliff Publication, Inc. to include their children. Business will continue, as usual, at the Commercial Recorder with his children in charge.        Church work was her love. She was a longtime member at St. Paul United Methodist Church and later Edge Park. She taught a Sunday school class and sang in the choir.        Genevieve was a past president of Zonta International and was an avid golfer and member of the Ladies Golf Association at Glen Garden Country Club.        We all loved her very much and knew she loved us, as much as she loved the Lord.        She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ben, who died in 2002; and her son, Ted Ratcliff, who died in 2007.        Survivors: Genevieve is survived by her son, Richard G. "Rick" Ratcliff and his wife, Nancy; daughter, Janet G. Ratcliff and Alex Herrera; grandchildren, Margaret Ann Ratcliff, Elaina Van Vliett, Jessica Bondurant, John Michael Bondurant Jr. and Brodie Simms; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Bennie Hahn, Barbara Robbins, Julia Lamance, Ann Thompson and Carrie Turney; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
