Gilbert Allen Barfield went home peacefully in his sleep Sunday, June 8, 2014. A Funeral Service will be held at First Baptist Euless on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 10:00 am. Visitation will be at Lucas Funeral Home Thursday from 6 to 8 pm. Interment will be at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. He was born on August 24, 1933, and for the eighty years of his life he was dedicated to his God, his family, his country, and his community. He married the love of his life Tommie Nell Wyble on June 29, 1962. They spent 50 years together until her death in 2012. They raised two wonderful children, Tessa and Eric, who will always remember the love, support, and example of their father. He was an active member of North Richland Hills Baptist Church and then First Baptist Church of Euless. He served as a Sunday School teacher from 1967 until his death, sang with the King’s Men Chorus for a number of years, and worked with Gideons International for almost 50 years. He served his country as an active duty USAF officer assigned to the Office of Special Investigations in the United States and Greenland in the 1950s and retired as a reservist in 1974. Gilbert graduated from SMU in 1955, received his JD in 1960, and became a member of the Texas Bar in 1961. As an attorney, he worked for Vought Aircraft for 28 years until his retirement in 1996 and served as a judge for the cities of Woodland Hills and De Soto. His community associations included the Texas Bar Association where he was a lifelong member, Amigos de SER, DFW Plans for Progress, United Way, and D.I.S.D. for whom he served as a Motivator. Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife Tommie . He is survived by his daughter Tessa Kolodny and her husband Carter, his son Eric Barfield and his wife Kyoko, his grandchildren Airman 1C Asher Kolodny, Madeleine Kolodny, Sergeant Kevin Barfield, and Nile Barfield, and family and friends too numerous to count.
