Jack Schmidt

Jack Schmidt, 57, returned to his heavenly home on April 24, 2015 after a brave battle with several health problems. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. Jack was born May 20, 1957 in Huntsville, AL to the late Thomas Lee Schmidt and Roberta Ann (Vice) Schmidt. He was raised in a military family and he joined the United States Army in 1974 serving 2 years active duty and 6 years Army National Guard. For the last ten years he was an Engineer with Cassidy Turley. Jack was blessed with a loving family. He met Victoria Harvey in St. Joseph, MO . It was a love at first sight and they were married May 25, 1980. He is dearly loved by his children Jessica, Billy Swinford and Jason Schmidt. The grandchildren Ava, Brandon, Emma, Logan, Chloe and Liam adored their PawPaw. He is also survived by a brother Donnie Payne and wife Barbara of McKinney, TX and sister Deborah Keel of Aubrey, TX, several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother, Terry Payne and his parents. Jack was loved by many. He could be a goofball sometimes as he loved to have fun and be silly. He had such a childlike loving spirit and was fun to be around. He loved the Lord and loved serving people. He would always be ready and willing to help a person out. He fought hard to beat all the health issues stacked against him. Even as sick as he was every day when a doctor, nurse, anyone came into his room his first question was "How are you today?" He was always thinking of the other person. These are just a few comments that were made about him by doctors, friends and all who came to know and love him: "happy warrior", "one tough cookie", "huggie bear", "happy heart". The family will be forever grateful for all the doctors, nurses, technicians, therapists who lovingly cared for our sweet Jack. A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, May 4th at 10 AM at the Gateway North Fort Worth Campus, 4209 Basswood Blvd., Fort Worth TX. The family will have a private inurnment at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the National Hemophilia Foundation in his memory.
