James Allred, 87, a retired pipeliner and member of Local 178 of the International Union of Operating Engineers, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015. Graveside service: 1 p.m. Friday in Grapevine Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Lucas Funeral Home in Grapevine. James was born Dec. 19, 1927, in Decatur to George and Ethyl Allred. He married Emogene Dickerson and they spent 72 wonderful years together. James was a pipeliner for many years and was known as one of the best. To his grandchildren, he was known as "Doodle." James loved going out to eat at the Golden Corral and he was known for saying, "You can pitch 'til you win there." James was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ethyl Allred; and a brother, Brody Allred. Survivors: His loving wife, Emogene Allred; daughter, Shirley Long and husband, Harriel; grandchildren, Keith Long and wife, Paula, and Kurt Long and wife, Michelle; great-grandchildren, Delani Long, Chase Long, Lexi Long and Cody Long; and brother, J.R. Allred.
