COLLEYVILLE -- James L. Hampton, 88, passed away Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, at a local health center after a long illness. Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church of Colleyville, 1000 Church St., Colleyville. The Rev. Mike Dawson will officiate. Interment: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lucas Funeral Home, 1321 Precinct Line Road, Hurst. Jim was born in El Dorado, Kan., to Perry Erle and Blanche Loomis Hampton on March 16, 1926. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and served in the Pacific and Japan during and after World War II and then served in the Korean War. He married his sweetheart, Connie Creswell, on Jan. 27, 1951. He retired from Amoco Production Co. in 1984. He had lived in Colleyville since 1975. Jim was a member of First United Methodist Church of Colleyville, Masonic Lodge, VFW, American Legion and AARP. He was a member of the Colleyville Volunteer Fire Department and was fire chief for one year. He helped organize AARP Chapter 4478 and helped in creating the first senior center in Colleyville. Jim enjoyed volunteering and spent many hours working on church and community affairs, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Little League boys' baseball and girls' softball and basketball, Masonic Lodge and VFW. He singly took 16 Boy Scouts for 10 days on a 70-mile trek into the Sangre de Cristo Mountains at Philmont Scout Ranch. He truly loved his family and lived life to the fullest. Jim was preceded in death by his son, James; his parents; and three sisters. Survivors: His wife of 63 years, Connie; children, Teresa Hampton and Janis and Craig Hodges of Colleyville and Sandra and Bill Ellis of Arlington; grandchildren, Kerry and Chris Hampton, Chelsey and Jett Hodges; great-grandson, Brent Brown and Jayce Lynn.
