Kenneth Ray Burnett

Kenneth Ray Burnett, 78, beloved husband, father, grandfather and loving friend to many people, went home to paradise to await the coming of his Lord to take him to his heavenly home on Sunday, April 27, 2014. Service: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Keller Church of Christ, Cory Collins officiating, with George Carman doing the obituary, and Paul Ethridge leading congregational singing. A reception for friends and family will immediately follow the service in the family life center. Burial: 1:30 to 1:45 p.m. in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Decatur. Memorials: May be made to the Keller Church of Christ Mission Fund, 205 Elm, Keller, Texas 76248. Ken was born at Parkland Hospital in Dallas on Dec. 25, 1935, to William Lewie Burnett and Alta May Carver Burnett. He married his devoted wife, Clara Agnes Ferguson, on Sept. 1, 1957, in Rainelle, W.Va. Along with the traditional wedding songs, they sang "Saviour Like a Shepherd Lead Us." Their life together always put God first as they effectively worked for Him. Ken graduated from Mesquite High School in 1954. He graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1959. He played the sousaphone in high school, college, and in the National Guard Band. He loved Sousa march music, and a capella singing. After graduating from Abilene Christen University, he preached for churches in West Virginia, Euless, Sweeny, Jacinto City, Beaumont, Slaton and Bridgeport. He worked 20 years for the Department of Human Services. He retired in 1996 and continued ministering for God. He was a friendly, outgoing, godly man, and was concerned for everyone who came in contact with him. Ken had a long battle with MDS and AML and needed many blood transfusions. He was blessed with extra months of life with his family and friends due to donations of blood from generous donors. Survivors: Loving wife, Agnes Burnett; children, Jeffrey Burnett and wife, Gina, Kendra Hedrick; granddaughter, Olivia Burnett; and a host of loving friends.
