ROANOKE -- Lloyd Jewell Beckett passed away Thursday, September 15, 2011 at his home. Funeral Services: 10:00 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Lucas Funeral Home, 137 East Hill St., Keller. Interment: Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park. Visitation: 3-5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Lloyd was born May 25, 1940 in Atlanta to the late Robert and Katheryn Beckett. He was raised in Texarkana. Lloyd was an employee of Work Evironmental Heating and Air and left there to become the first paid Fire Chief of Roanoke. He started his volunteer fire department in 1972. After almost 20 years he became the first ever paid fire position. His life was that of the work that he so loved with the fire dept. Lloyd chose to stay here in the town that he loved and the people here that were like family to him. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; wife of over 30 years, Naoma Beckett; children, Linda Mitchell Stokes, and Troy Mitchell. Survivors: Children, James L. Beckett and wife Glenda of Whitehouse, Ronna Melton and husband, Randall of Texarkana, Donna Whitehead and husband, Jeff of Texarkana, Roy Beckett and wife, Jennifer of Maud, John R. Mitchell of Roanoke, and Donnie Mitchell of Paradise; 13 grandkids; and one very special friend for the past two years, Jacqueline Slaughter to who we owe the great fun that our daddy had and a true gift from God.
