MARY CHAPPELL

FORT WORTH -- Mary Catherine Sloan Chappell, 92, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died peacefully Thursday evening, March 16, 2006, at her residence following complications from non-Hodgkins lymphoma. ??? Memorial service: 2 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of the Intercession at First Presbyterian Church of Fort Worth, 1000 Penn Street. Burial: Catherine will be laid to rest in Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: Her family will receive friends in the church parlor immediately following the memorial service. ??? Memorials: Mrs. Chappell's family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, her memory may be honored by making contributions to Community Hospice, the Historic Preservation Trust of the Woman's Club of Fort Worth or to a charity of choice. ??? A native and life resident of Fort Worth, Mary Catherine Sloan was born Dec. 22, 1913, the daughter of Oscar and Mary Moore Sloan. She was a 1931 graduate of Central High School, now R.L. Paschal, and married M.E. Chappell Jr. on June 13, 1932. ??? As a member of the Woman's Club of Fort Worth, Catherine was former president of Club Fidelete'. She was also a former president of the Kappa Alpha Theta Mother's Club and was active in the Women of First Presbyterian Church, where she was a member. Her memberships also included Ridglea Country Club. ??? Survivors: Husband of 73 years, M.E. Chappell Jr.; daughter, Gretchen Chappell Cummings, both of Fort Worth; grandsons, Charles Robert Cummings Jr. and his wife, Karen of Hurst, and Richard Chappell Cummings of Los Angeles, Calif.; and great-grandson, Eli Tanner Cummings.
